High-Performance Computing Lab
High-performance computing lab (HPC lab) is focused on the design and development of microprocessors and related technologies that offer significant increases in the performance of computing systems.
Today there are a lot of applications requiring increasing levels of performance, for example:
- Scientific Computing: climate modeling, geophysics and seismic analysis, nuclear simulations, computational fluid dynamics, particle physics.
- Nanotechnology: molecular modeling and simulation, density functional theory, atom-atom dynamics, quantum analysis.
- Life Sciences and Biotechnology: protein folding and simulation of biological systems, proteomics and pharmacogenomics, computational chemistry and biology.
- Digital Context Creation: animation, composing and rendering, video processing and editing, image processing.
Research Areas
HPC Lab conducts research in the following areas:
- Theory of parallel computing. Investigations of computing models with high level of parallelism and other benefits.
- Effective approaches to hardware implementation of digital circuits. This study covers both physical and logical IC design aspects.
- Development of parallel programming languages and compilation techniques for parallel architectures.
Projects with a significant scientific researches part is always connected with high risks. At the same time there is practically not theory of management for such projects in Russia, nor worldwide. HPC lab develops and introduces new processes and methods of project management for innovative projects. The goal is to create the high-performance environment to join scientists, engineers and developers team efforts.
