About
Lebedev Institute of Precision Mechanics and Computer Engineering, Russian Academy of Sciences (IPMCE)
is one of the leading Russian centers for research and
development in advanced computer and communication technologies.
IPMCE is aimed at developing the innovative breakthrough
technologies and products as well as delivering
client-oriented R&D services to Russian and international
clients.
Being established in Moscow in 1948, the Institute has
a glorious history. During the Soviet era it was the most
important scientific and technological center famous for development of
original supercomputer architectures, design of microelectronic
systems, embedded systems, special-purpose computers and real-time
control systems.
IPMCE is the cradle of Russian high-performance computing
industry. It is the birthplace of the first
high-performance Russian supercomputers, including ones of BESM
and Elbrus series, which formed the basis of Soviet defense
systems and space programs. The computing systems developed by the
Institute have provided the country’s anti-missile defense for half
a century and became the respective national standard.
Nowadays the Institute is still one of the major
contributors to the national IT knowledge base and engaged
in a broad research and development spectrum for Russian
government and other non-governmental enterprises. More than
500 researchers and engineers conduct research and development
with an applied focus in IPMCE.
Currently, IPCME incorporates a number of research
laboratories and one engineering center. Additionally, there
is a strategy in breeding incubated high-tech companies,
which can be commercialized.
